Hello Friends!

I’m Sarah, a mother of three, an Elementary School Teacher,  and a certified pediatric sleep consultant.  I help exhausted and sleep deprived parents give their little ones the precious sleep they need every night.

SLEEP IS ON THE WAY...

Why work with a consultant?

Lack of sleep has a negative effect on the mental health of you, your child, and your family.  As a professional sleep consultant,  I help struggling parents set safe sleeping habits for their infants and toddlers.

Is your baby sleeping enough?

Babies and toddlers need a lot of sleep to support their needs to grow, learn and play.  How many hours do infants and toddlers need to sleep in a day?

My sleep program

My sleep programs are customized for you  and your little ones.  Whether you need help for every step of the way or a little nudge in the right direction, i’m here for you!

  • Great post Sarah!
Here is the nap cheat sheet I promised you! Remember that crib hour does not apply to the last nap of the day because that nap is often a “cat nap”. TAG a friend who could use this cheat sheet 💕
.
.
CRIB HOUR is used to encourage short nappers to fall back asleep. This is when your little one is left in their crib for ONE hour starting from when they fall asleep. For example: Say your baby goes into the crib at 8 am and falls asleep at 8:20. She then wakes up a 9 am. You would leave her until 9:20 to completed crib hour. In this time, the hope is that she will fall back asleep 💤 .
.
IF your babe refuses a nap aka does not fall asleep, crib hour would count from when he goes into the crib. For example, he goes into the crib at 8 am but does not fall asleep you would leave him in there until 9 am to attempt a nap. If after the hour he still has not fallen asleep, refer to the chart above. .

If your baby is taking little cat naps all the time, they will require more frequent naps during the day. .
.
However, once your little one has good quality naps, these are the ideal number of naps. .
.
Keep in mind that total nap time (or TNT if you will 😂) is very important. See my other chart regarding this. .
.
There is a delicate balance between having enough quality nap time during the day and having too much. .

  • I never used to give much thought to the bath products I bought for my children. I bought whatever was on sale at the grocery store.
.
.
A while back, I went to an Arbonne party and learned that @arbonne products are safe to use on your baby.
.
.
I purchased the ABC (Arbonne Baby Care) line and I love it! It includes a body wash, body lotion, diaper cream and sunblock. .
.
I LOVE bath time with my children and now I feel like I can rest easy knowing that the products I have chosen are safe. .

  • Daylight savings time is so confusing. Here are some tips I have to help ease the time change transition.
.
.
In less than a week, we “spring forward”. So the time on the clock changes and we lose and hour but not really 🤷‍♀️
.
.
There are a couple of different options:
1️⃣You can “wing it”. This is a good option for older children who adjust well to change.
2️⃣You can make small adjustments leading up to time change day. This is best for babies or children who do not respond well to change. .
.
How to make these adjustments you ask? Start by shifting your daily schedule by 15 minutes every couple of days.
.
If your baby typically wakes at 7:30 am, wake him up at 7:15 for a couple of days, then 7 am, 6:45 and then 6:30. When the clock changes, it will actually say 7:30 and you are right back where you started. .
.
This also means shifting meals and bedtime earlier by 15 minutes. .
.
☀️ My other suggestion is natural k get exposure during the day and a DARK room during sleep. The sun will be shining later in the day meaning you need to blackout your sleep space. .
.

  • I thought I knew what I was doing.
.
.
When the boys were 4 months old and I read a book about sleep training. I implemented what I read and they started to sleep better.
.
.
Was it perfect? No? Were we getting some sleep? Some nights. .
.
The internet and books are filled with valuable information. You can definitely get some great tips and advice from these sources. .
.
Why hire a sleep coach if you can access all of this information for free?
.
.
A custom sleep plan takes all of the information that applies to your little one. It gives you a clear plan designed specifically for your baby.
.
.
The internet and books can tell you WHAT. But a sleep coach can tell you WHY, WHEN and HOW. .
.
After a week with my clients, my goal is for them to feel empowered with their new knowledge and skills. .
.
If you want to do sleep training on your own that is totally fine too. And I hope that my page has some valuable information.
.
.
I thought I knew what I was doing with the boys. I knew enough to get by. But I wish I knew then what I know now. Things could have been so much better! .

  • I want to share something with you all. It is no secret that I have struggled with anxiety and depression. I always thought that I was the only one who suffered when I didn’t prioritize myself. But my whole family suffers. •
•
When I feel anxious, my children sense it. Instead of watching a movie or playing With the kids, my anxiety was driving me to clean or get lost in my own thoughts.
•
•
I have recently learned that if I want a more calm and happy family, I have to dedicate energy and time to make myself calm and happy. •
•
For my, prioritizing myself mean talking to a therapist to learn why I have racing thoughts and how I can manage them. •
Another way I have prioritized myself is by taking medication to manage my anxious thoughts.
•
•
Prioritizing yourself can look different to everyone. It might be a bubble bath or a jog. It might be some sleep! •
In the past I always told myself that when my kids were older I would have time for myself. But the truth is that your children need the best version of their parents. •
And how can you be the best version of yourself if you don’t value yourself? It doesn’t have to be much, but find time to do what makes you feel your best. . #pashionateaboutsleep #youmattertoo #mommatterstoo #mamamatters #selfcarefirst #selfcarematters #selfcaretip #happymomhappykids #happymomhappybaby #happymomhappylife #happymomhappyfamily #prioritizeyourself #prioritizeyourhealth #mymentalhealthjourney #mymentalhealthmatters #
  • Swings, bouncy chairs, baby nests and car seats are all handy when getting your baby to fall asleep. .
.
I caution parents to use these products during supervised, daytime sleep. Why is this? .
.
A newborn’s head accounts for about 25% of their body size. When your infant is in a sitting position, their head is resting on their shoulders. .
.
They can have a difficult time getting enough oxygen due to their trachea being pushed on. .
.
What can you do to make these items safer? •remove loose blankets and padding from the swing or seat
•recline the swing as much as possible
•ensure baby is strapped or buckled properly •if your little one falls asleep in the car seat, attempt to move them to a safe sleep space upon arrival.
.
.
My intention is not to scare parents but rather to remind parents of SAFE sleep. .
.
If your baby falls asleep in a swing or seat, keep them in sight. These products were created with the intention of calming fussy babies and they serve that purpose. They just aren’t always safe for sleep. .

  • This is a photo of Mira when she was about a month old and I remember the thoughts I had when I took this photo. .
.
I was questioning why my baby would sleep so well during the day but night sleep was a disaster. .
.
I was wondering why other people’s babies were sleeping through the night already. .
.
I was thinking of all the things I could do to make her sleep better. I was begging the “sleep gods” to give me just a few hours of sleep. .
.
I wish I knew then what I know now and it’s this:
1) Every baby is unique. If your baby is not a great sleeper it is not your fault. •
2) There is SO much to know about newborn sleep. Take the time to learn about it because you can lay the foundations of healthy sleep habits.
•
3) Don’t be hard on yourself. If you need to get by with a few “bad habits” ,such as nursing to sleep, then so be it. Survival mode is exactly that. Survival. You are just doing your best and trying to get some sleep •
4) There is support and resources to help you navigate this really hard time. .
5) Invest in a good swaddle! My absolutely favourite is the @theollieworld swaddle. It was a game changer for us. •
•
If you are expecting or have a baby age 0-4 months, check out my newborn sleep guide (link in bio). This has all the information I wish I knew when I had newborns. I also included a section for multiples. •
